Online Stopwatch

http://www.online-stopwatch.com/

I am a big believer in structure and routine with my 9th graders.  The more structure I can give them, the less discipline problems I have.  One useful tool that I use at least 4 times a week is an online stopwatch/timer.  I click the link from my favorites, turn on my smartboard, set the timer and off I go.     This has been a lifesaver.  Before the "stopwatch days", I would give the students 10 minutes to work on something, and then the 10 minutes turned into 15 or 20.  With this stopwatch/countdown timer, 10 minutes is really 10 minutes.  A bell rings when time is up.   Not only can the students keep track of how much time they have left, but it helps me stay on track as well!!!!

  1. I use online-stopwatch as well for timing progress monitoring quizzes we have to give every other week.

One tool my coteacher Mark has begun using is the record function in SmartNotebook for his Smartboard. He has a webcam (with microphone) so that picks up his voice and the record function records his writing on the smartboard. He can save and upload "video lessons" of Geometry class for kids to rewatch later. Usually about 10 minutes of him "working" problems. Because with Geometry sometimes you really have to see it to get it. www.markfair.net Click Geometry and watch Video lessons.
